Engineering FAQs
What's involved in a coffee machine service?
A full coffee machine service should be done once a year. We strip the machine down and replace all perishable o-rings and seals, and re-lubricate. We will perform a light de-scale on all essential components and run a full diagnosis ensure the machine is safe to operate and unlikely to fail.
What is a PSSR certificate and do I need one?
The certificate ensures that the machine complies with the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 and is a legal requirement for all machine older than 14 months. It should then be carried out once a year. We are certified to issue PSSR certificates under the ‘Coffee Safe’ scheme.
How often do I need to change my water filter?
It depends on your area and water type. Generally, water filters need to be changed once or twice a year. Our engineer will measure the water quality at your site, your average usage and then advise on the best system.
I've found a used coffee machine online, can you check it for me?
Yes. There are some great bargains out there. However we always advise that a machine with an unknown history is given a full descale and service. Prices for this start at £650 + VAT. If you’re interested in a used machine, make sure you check out the ‘Refurbished machine’ section of our website.
Do my grinder burrs need changing?
The Burr is the flat cutting disc that does all the work in your grinder. Most burrs are rated for 300 – 600 Kg meaning most cafés should be changing their burrs once a year.
Can you descale a coffee machine?
Yes. This requires a full strip down and soak in an acid bath. We then rebuild the machine and replace all worn moving parts. Your machine should then operate ‘as new’.
What make of coffee machine do you recommend?
We recommend Conti and Victoria Arduino.
Do you do emergency callouts?
Yes. We always prioritize our existing wholesale accounts but we aim to be with you in two hours for a full break down and we carry backup machines to keep you in service if yours can’t be fixed on site.
What should I expect to pay in maintenance?
Best industry estimates suggest that you should budget between £400 - £600 per year to keep your machine in perfect condition.
